SPN Player Rankings- Pitchers

TOP TWENTY STARTING PITCHERS

1-

No surprise here. And it wasn't close. Not only is Sosa the best pitcher in the league right now, he is on course to retire as the best pitcher in the history of the league. He doesn't need a scouting report. Nobody can hit him. There isn't anything he can't do. I suppose if you want to find something, he has only hit one home run in his career.

2-

The biggest beneficiary of Matos moving to the NL was Quilvio Lee. He was now the unquestioned best pitcher in the AL, and won three consecutive Cy Youngs since then to prove it. He possesses excellent control, and hides the ball very well. Hitters from both sides of the plate pick up the ball very late. Combine his deception with very good velocity and, possibly, the best sinking fastball in the league makes Lee dominant. Also has a complementary slider and a couple offspeed pitches to complete his repertoire.

3-

If you were to build a right handed starting pitcher from scratch, it might be Hipolito Matos. Durable. Very good control and velocity. Has an excellent fastball. Is dominant against both lefties and righties. Four Cy Youngs don't lie after all.

4-

Leonard though is a durable, workhorse type starter. Excellent control, good velocity. Has the best change up in the league and sets up his other pitches with his offspeed stuff.

5-

Like Leonard, also a workhorse, averages about 220 innings per season. His success is based on his pinpoint control and his 'heavy' pitches. His ball seems to have a natural sink, and hitters have a very hard time elevating his pitches. Low home run rates and low walk rates equals a successful pitcher.
