Commissioner's Story Lines and Analysis:
- ESPN is predicting a Scottsdale like run to a World Series title for Richmond. Richmond would enter into the playoff with the lowest roster score of all of the playoff teams and defeat 2 of the top 3 rosters (Milwaukee and Monterrey) on the way to their title. I find that unlikely but it would be very impressive and a great story line.
- Another playoff disappointment for Pepe and San Diego would mean one less season in his window of opportunity to put the final touch on his illustrious career, only needing a WS ring to literally have accomplished everything possible in professional baseball.
- I think ESPN is highly under rating the Little Rock squad. I think they will probably make the playoffs and would be shocked to see them finish in 3rd. You just can't quantify experience and a winning culture.
- Speaking of closing windows, at age 37, Hipolito Matos has very little time left in one of the greatest pitching careers the league has ever seen. The sure-fire HoFer is still trying desperately to land the coveted championship ring. According to ESPN, this won't be the year though as the Badgers get swept in the 1st round by the eventual Cinderella Richmond Rebellion.
- After their Season 20 swan song World Series win, the Baltimore Revolution dynasty finally collapsed and its been seven seasons since this proud franchise was in the postseason. This season looks to be their year. Their roster boasts an excellent trio of starting pitchers at the top supported by the first wave of young talent making it up to the show. Expect to see the Rev back into the playoffs for a long time.
- Once again the Boys of Summer likely have the best overall roster in the NL, led by the reigning MVP. They look to be in great position to contend for a title this season. ESPN, however, has them bowing out in a hard fought series against Richmond.
- Ho-hum in Philly. Best starting pitching in the AL, check. They look ready to contend once again as the never ending pipeline of IFA starting pitchers has seemed to keep this team full of great arms for as long as I can remember. Their Latin American pitching academy is still the envy of all of the other teams in the league and has yet to be duplicated.
- Houston doesn't have a problem. They boast the 3rd highest roster score in the AL and are projected to finish right on Monterrey's heals. The Buushwackerz are another team that are poised for many more seasons of playoff baseball. The AL South, usually owned by New Orleans, is now one of the toughest in the league and could have three playoff teams come out of it.
